The Wahkiakum Mules cross country team is entering their third week of competition this week, heading to Stevenson for a league meet today.
Their season started with a 13 team race in Rainier on Thursday, September 9. Sophomore Nathan Garrett represented the Mule boys in the 2.4 mile run, taking 27th place with a time of 16:39.96. The winning runner, Asher Simpson of Morton/White Pass finished in 13:59.70
The Watkins twins, seniors Kimberlee and Alexandria, represented the Mule girls in their 2.4 mile race. Kimberlee took 19th place with a time of 26:20.17, and Alexandria finished in 30:45.87 for 23rd place. The winning runner, Selena Niemi of Rainier, finished in 15:55.02.
On September 16, the Mules traveled to Cascade Peaks to join five other teams in the Fast and Flat, a 5,000 meter race.
Garrett took 11th place in the boys’ race with a time of 22:03.96. The winner, again Asher Simpson of Morton/White Pass, finished with a time of 18:13.28.
Kimberlee Watkins took sixth place in the girls’ race with a time of 34:08.23. The winner, Ayricka Hughes of Morton/White Pass finished with a time of 23:30.71.
