Charles “Chuck” Parker, 81, longtime Skamokawa resident, died in Colorado Springs, CO on August 7, 2021.
Chuck was born in Cathlamet on February 18, 1940 to Sid and Mary (Powers) Parker. He was active in 4-H while in school in Skamokawa. He graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1958 and joined the Air Force in 1959. He spent 21 years in the military.
He married Sheran Kelley on September 24, 1960 and they were stationed in many places where they had their family before returning to Skamokawa. After the military Chuck went to LCC in Longview and Portland State University, earning his teaching degree. For many years he substitute taught in Naselle, Cathlamet and Kelso. In the summers he enjoyed working at Vista Park. He was an active member of Wahkiakum Lions Club, the Skamokawa Methodist Church, Skamokawa Grange, American Legion and the VFW #5297. His greatest joy was his family. He did love people and never met a stranger. He enjoyed working with kids and helping his community.
Chuck is survived by his wife Sheran; two daughters, LeeAnn Bonds and Brenda Rutledge; two sons, Timothy and Gregory Parker; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers Richard and Mike Parker; two sisters Beverly Moonen and Anita Beyer and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday August 14 at the Dowling Chapel in Cathlamet at 1 p.m., with a light lunch to follow. A private interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery in Skamokawa at a later date. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
