Invest in the future of Wahkiakum

To The Eagle:

I had the opportunity to participate in the interview process with Wahkiakum Dollars for Scholars (WDFS) for the 2021 graduates of WHS who were applying for scholarships. I, as well as the other interviewers, were impressed and amazed at the qualifications and aspirations of these young people! Our only disappointment was that we didn’t have more funding to provide to assist with their continuing education.

WDFS is a non-profit volunteer organization and 100% of our fundraising goes toward scholarships for WHS graduates. You can help by visiting our online auction, our only fundraiser for the year, at http://www.32auctions.com/MulePowerOnlineAuction. There are over 40 items up for auction and 24 sponsors who have donated money to the cause. This is a community effort, thanks to all who have helped! The auction closes at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 13.

One of the graduates approached us about donating a cord of firewood to auction. Quite impressive, giving back to Wahkiakum and he hasn’t even graduated yet. It is one of the most active items, gone above the stated value and they have agreed to donate another! Let’s see how much we can raise from this generosity!

WDFS welcomes new members. We also administer scholarships set up by individuals that set the criteria for the recipients. You can reach our organization at PO Box 498, Cathlamet, WA 98612 or call Steve McClain at (360)560-2594 or me at (360)751-4497.

Please consider WDFS in your giving and estate planning, it is an investment in Wahkiakum’s future!
