Pool opens Monday; lessons start in July

The Julia Butler Hansen Municipal Pool is tentatively scheduled to open on Monday, June 14, providing the heaters are ready to go.

Parts have been ordered, and a repairman is willing to work over the weekend if necessary, Public Works Superintendent David McNally said.

Because of the pandemic, the number of visitors to the pool is limited to 30 at a time, a number that includes staff.

They will be conducting temperature and symptom checks at the door and masks will be required for anyone who is unvaccinated. The pool will have masks available in the locker room.

“If you are sick or not feeling good, please refrain from coming,” McNally said.

Pool Manager Charlie Ashe said that 11 lifeguards have been trained and are ready to go for the summer season. She added that lessons will begin the first Monday in July.
