Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Starting today (Thursday), Wahkiakum Dollars for Scholars will host an online auction to help support the Wahkiakum High School (WHS) class of 2022.
In their 20 years of fundraising, the local Dollars for Scholars chapter has raised over $513,825.00 and hopes to continue assisting WHS graduates with their college education or vocational pathways through scholarships.
Historically the local Dollars for Scholars chapter has organized in-person events such as sturgeon derbies and car shows (remember Rods and Reels?). After a 40 percent deficit in fundraising last year, they’ve decided to reach the community where they are – at home.
By visiting the Dollars for Scholars online auction, members of the community and beyond can bid on a variety of featured items including a handcrafted cedar bench, pine table, kayak tour, custom fishing rod, original local art, and more. Several items included in the auction have been donated by graduates of WHS.
Using the URL https://www.32auctions.com/MulePowerOnlineAuction anyone can participate in the virtual auction by creating an account and logging in. Once logged in, one can “watch items” by clicking on the heart next to featured items or simply bid.
For questions regarding this year’s fundraising efforts, contact Dollars for Scholars President, Steve McClain (skamok@centurytel.net). If you prefer to donate, you can mail checks to P.O. Box 498 and make checks payable to Wahkiakum Dollars For Scholars.
