Former Cathlamet resident John Marley, Jr. (Jack) was born in South Gate, California on 12-21-1934 to Louretta and John Marley, Sr. He died at home on Friday 04-23-21 with his wife, Mae, by his side. Jack joined the Marine Corps and served three years active duty and five years in the Marine Corps Reserve. He was in law enforcement in California for 25 years serving as a deputy sheriff, police officer and detective. He retired from the Palm Springs Police Department in 1977.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Marley, his sons, Dirk Marley (Debbie), John Marley (Tami), and Michael Marley (RaeAnn Steckler), his stepdaughter, Kim Hallowell (Mike), and his stepson, Scott Humble (Corina), 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a nephew and two nieces. Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Eramo, his son-in-law, mother, father, stepfather and sister.
Jack loved to read, fish and hunt. He created beautiful woodworking projects which he enjoyed sharing with loved ones. Family and friends appreciated his great attitude, his wonderful sense of humor and his sparkly blue eyes. His sons said the following about their dad: Dirk: Dad was the most honorable man I have ever known. John: Dad will be remembered fondly as a true American hero. Mike: I love hunting in Republic, WA with my wonderful and fun dad. Phil, his nephew: Jack helped mold me into the person I am today. He will be missed.
A family memorial will be held at a later date.
