Law officers speak against anti-Asian violence

Wahkiakum County Sheriff Mark Howie this week joined colleagues across the state in speaking out against violence against Asians.

"We grieve for the families of mass shooting victims in Atlanta and condemn acts of violence against any targeted group," the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs said in a March 18 statement. "A recent rise in crimes against Asian Americans has occurred here in Washington and across our country.

"WASPC strongly condemns violence and acts of hate. WASPC members will continue to arrest and hold accountable people who commit bias based crimes. We are committed to continued outreach to AAPI communities and stand together against hate crimes."

"I fully support the statement in its entirety and as sheriff, will investigate any and all hate crimes against any protected group," Howie announced Monday.
