Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The Board of Directors held its monthly meeting on October 20.
In personnel matters, the board approved the hire of Tawnya Steenerson, assistant cook.
Policy 3122, Excused and Unexcused Absences, was also approved.
The board declared a list of items for surplus and will sell these to the public after school districts have a chance to purchase them.
Building goals and student learning objectives for the year were shared by the building principals, Mr. Flood and Mr. Laine.
An overview was provided on how the first month of school had gone so far during the Covid-19 pandemic. Logistics were shared on how students were arranged for transportation to school, attendance in classes, and meal times. No decisions were made regarding altering the schedule, other than the optimism of hoping to have more students attend during the day. The general consensus was that so far things had gone well, with just a little over a month of the school year having passed. So far, there has been no quarantining of students or staff due to Covid. Conversations around getting more students on campus on any given day are ongoing.
Superintendent Nelson shared that the district is approaching the upcoming renewal of its Educational Operations and Enrichment Levy. The levy is a replacement levy, as the existing one is set to expire in 2021. The levy helps pay for anything outside of basic provisions by the state, such as extra-curricular activities, athletics, coaches, advisors, technology, transportation for field trips and ballgames, and any staff beyond the basic funding formula, such as counselors, custodial, technology, nursing, and superintendent, to name a few. More information is set to come out about the replacement levy soon.
The next board meeting will be November 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
