Merle A. Brockway, 84, of Longview, died July 25, 2020 at his home. He was born in Oronoco, Minnesota on September 18, 1935 to Lloyd and Elsie (Roslach) Brockway. He was one of eight children. His family moved to Cathlamet where he was raised and attended school before he started his long logging career.
In the mid fifties he married Darlene, his first wife and they had two children, Phillip and Beverlee and later divorced. He married Joanne Cook on June 5, 1965. He and Joanne lived in Skamokawa from 1965 until 1994 when they moved to Longview.
He loved logging and spent 35 years in the yard and driving truck for Crown Zellerbach before going to Alaska to work for Silver Bay Logging for 10 years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, watching their sports as well as fishing and the outdoors.
Merle is survived by Joanne, three daughters, Beverlee Martinez, Sheila Brockway, Janine Helms (Mark), a stepson, Terry Meyers (Debbie), a brother, Tom Brockway, two sisters, Evelyn Santee and Eleanor Sutro, 12 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Merle was preceded in death by two sons, Phillip and Brian Brockway, a brother, Edward and three sisters, Irene Twiss, Lola Trombly and Lucille Dull.
At Merle’s request no service will be held. His family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in his name be made to Wahkiakum School District Memo: Girls Athletics in Merle Brockway’s Memory, P.O. Box 398, Cathlamet WA 98612. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
