The Naselle/Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met virtually for its monthly meeting on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. This was the first virtual meeting of the board by virtue of Governor Inslee’s mandate regarding open public meetings.
After approval of the consent agenda, the board approved an action to allow the superintendent authority to waive or amend graduation requirements for the class of 2020 due to issues caused by the COVID 19 virus.
Principals from the Naselle Youth Camp and the K-12 schools offered updates on the status of school operations given the recent closure. Staff continue to provide work to students and communicate with their classes through the internet, email, telephone and other means.
Superintendent Nelson reported that the district had just completed a three year financial audit with positive results. Also, it was shared that the Department of Children, Youth and Families had provided a projection of 70 students for the youth camp for the 2020-21 school year.
The next virtual board meeting is scheduled for May 19 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
