Sheriff offers update on services

Dear Wahkiakum County Community:

We at the sheriff's office are taking every precaution necessary to keep our staff healthy so that we can continue to provide the maximum level of public safety services to you. With that, you know how devastating it would be if even one of us contracted the virus and easily, possibly without detection, spread it throughout our office or the community. It could cripple our public safety services in every way, and so I have had to take extra measures to ensure we all stay healthy as much as we can. This includes minimizing exposure to the general public, while still being available to take calls for service and respond to those calls requiring our attention.

As of March 23, we are no longer allowing any unnecessary visitors into the sheriff’s office. If there is a reason that someone needs to come inside, they will be required to take their temperature outside the door with our temperature gauge prior to entering. Those with temperatures of 100 degrees or higher will not be permitted in the office but would be directed to contact their doctor instead. Most of our regular business can be conducted by phone or through the window. We are also not allowing ride-alongs at this time. Please remember these safety measures are temporary.

I thank you for your understanding and hope you know this is for your safety as much as it is for ours. We at the Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Office are still here for you 24/7 and will continue to respond to your emergencies and needs for assistance. Be well and be safe.

Sheriff Mark Howie
