The Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction has chosen Wahkiakum High School senior Nai'a Freeman as a nominee for the 2020 US Presidential Scholars Program recognition award.
Students who have been nominated throughout the US will receive an application, which they should complete and submit by February 25. Approximately 800 semifinalists will be announced in mid-April, and Scholars will be announced during the first week of May.
Academic achievement, personal characteristics, leadership, service activities, and for the quality of a personal essay, submitted with their application will be taken into consideration by a review group of educators.
As many as 161 students are chosen to be Scholars each year. They receive an all expense paid trip to Washington DC, where they will have the opportunity to meet with government officials and others. They will also receive a US Presidential Scholars medallion at a ceremony at the White House.
