The Naselle-Grays River Valley School Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on February 18, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. in the Middle School Commons.
After approval of the consent agenda, the following were approved--the school calendar for 2020-21 and overnight and out of district travel for spring sports and activities.
In personnel matters, the resignation of Ryley Queener as middle school track coach was acknowledged.
An evaluation of the superintendent was also conducted. The board agreed to extend the Superintendent’s contract for another year.
Board member Amy Chadwick provided an update on the current legislative session, noting several bills that had reached the cutoff point. Of primary interest were bills on special education.
Board member Lonnie Eaton provided an overview of the likely new leagues forming for athletics with the likes of Pe Ell, Willapa Valley, Mossyrock, and Winlock all meeting the enrollment threshold for the 1B classification.
Youth Camp principal, Gary Flood noted that the population at the camp had risen sharply in the last month with the passage of new legislation that required older residents to remain in the juvenile system rather than serving their sentence with the Department of Corrections.
Superintendent Nelson noted that several basketball athletes were chosen for all-league selections along with Bill Olsen, Coach of the Year for the Columbia Valley League.
The next regularly scheduled school board meeting will be March 17 in the Middle School Commons, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
