Mule girls roll over Cards

The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team traveled to Winlock last Thursday and beat the Cardinals, 61-23.

“It was nice to see the girls put some things into action that we have been working on in practice and play for a solid four quarters,” Coach Rob Garrett said. “Paige (Mace) did a great job getting to the lane once again, which really opens things up for the rest of the team. Jansi (Merz) is really starting to figure out her court awareness, which makes for easier shots for both herself and her teammates. Now we will see if we can do it in Elma against a more difficult opponent.”

Merz led the team with 23 points. Mace added 16. Alexzandria Watkins had six points, Courtney Carlson had five, Emerald Niemela had four, and Reigha Niemeyer had three. Kimberlee Watkins and Megan Leitz finished the game with two points apiece.

Lady Mules 25 13 9 14 --61

Winlock 10 6 4 3 --23

The team traveled to Elma yesterday (Wednesday), but the score was not available at press time. The Lady Mules face Toutle Lake at home tonight (Thursday), and travel to Kalama on Tuesday.
