Mule boys win on road, lose at home

The Wahkiakum Mule boys basketball team split games this week, losing one at home and winning one on the road.

The Mules held the lead for much of the game against Napavine last Friday. After a bit of back and forth, the Tigers pulled ahead by 10 late in the game and were able to hold off a last push from the Mules in the final minute.

"We played a great game and shared the ball for three quarters," Coach Todd Souvenir said. "Unfortunately, we settled for tough shots from the perimeter in the fourth and fell to a physical, big Napavine team."

Jake Leitz scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Brodie Avalon added 14 points. Brody Carlson had 11 points. Logan LaBerge scored eight points and had 10 assists. Dominic Curl had five points and seven rebounds.

On Monday, the team crossed the river to take on Clatskanie and won 68--49.

"We didn't shoot the ball all that well as a team," Coach Souvenir said, "but did the little things and pushed the ball to get some easy looks in the first half, which led to a 19 point lead at the half."

Leitz had a double double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Avalon scored 21 points. LaBerge added eight points and six rebounds. K.C. Beery scored eight points. Curl had four points, and Ashden Niemeyer added two points and six rebounds.
