Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Wahkiakum School District’s website has a whole new look. The address, http://wahksd.k12.wa.us/ , remains the same, but the new page is ADA compliant, can be read in several languages, is more informative, and can now be easily accessed by district employees to make day to day changes as necessary.
“It greatly expands the amount of information that we can put out to the public,” Superintendent Brent Freeman said. “There were some things that needed to be updated, and we wanted each of the schools to have their own input on the web page, to tell their own stories.”
The district did a lot of research before going with Cyberschool and IES, Inc. to build their web page. They worked on the project through the summer, hoping to have the web page ready before the school year started, but they eventually decided to delay going live until the new year.
There are still a few glitches, and some information is dated, but they are making changes as they go along.
“It’ll probably take several weeks to iron the kinks out, but it’s up,” Freeman said. “We’re happy with it.”
Fonts, text sizing, color contrast are just some of the ADA compliant issues the district had to consider while building the page. They broke out all the departments, including transportation and food services, where you can check the menu and more. Teachers will be able to access the site, to create their own classroom pages. The website includes all the district’s policies, school board minutes, and easy access to forms that parents and students might need to print. Teacher information and emails are listed, and sports schedules have been posted.
There is even a fun countdown till the end of the year for students.
