The Wahkiakum Mules cross country runners competed in two events over the past week.
The team traveled to Toledo last Tuesday, to compete in the Bob Nollan Classic Trail Race at Lewis and Clark State Park with four other 2B schools.
There were 35 runners in the boys’ 5,000 meter race. Daniel Quintana of Ilwaco led all runners with a time of 16:48. Titan Niemela came in first for the Mules with a time of 22:34 for 25th place. Kaiden Ray came in almost a minute later with a time of 23:32, and took 28th place. Alex Tantum finished in 30th place with a time of 24:23.
Darla Kandoll of Toutle Lake led the girls’ 5,000 meter race, finishing with a time of 22:21. Alexzandria Watkins took 21st place with a time of 33:22, and her sister Kimberlee wasn’t far behind, finishing in 33:40 for 22nd place.
On Tuesday, the team traveled to Toutle Lake to face five other schools in a Central 2B meet.
Riley Kent of Toutle Lake took first place in a field of 33 runners with a time of 17:24.43. Niemela led Mule runners, taking 16th place with a time of 22:14.92. Ray came in 17th place with a time of 22:17.99. Tantum finished in 24:22.51 for 23rd place.
Darla Kandoll of Toutle Lake led the girls’ in their 5,000 meter race, finishing with a time of 22:10.01. A. Watkins finished in 12th place with a time of 35:15.79. K. Watkins took 13th place with a time of 35:16.82.
The Mules traveled to Ilwaco today (Thursday) for the JW Black Lake XC Race.
