Master Gardener training offered

Join the Cowlitz County Master Gardeners as they share reliable gardening information and environmentally sustainable gardening techniques with the adults and children in the community by becoming a WSU Cowlitz County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Community Educator.

They are still accepting applications for their 2020 Master Gardener training class, which begins in January. No prior gardening experience needed—just a thirst for knowledge and a desire to share that knowledge through volunteer activities.

The training concentrates on helping students become acquainted with horticultural topics and learning to use resources to find answers to gardening questions asked by the community. The training is all open-book, and no memorization is ever required.

The training involves 60 hours of classroom and hands-on activities, and is held once a week on Fridays, beginning January 24 through June 12.

The tuition for this extensive training experience is $150.00, plus a volunteer commitment of 90 hours of on-the-job internship over two years, while working and having fun with other like-minded volunteers on their many projects and workshops. Without the volunteer commitment, the tuition is $250.00.
