N/GRV School Board Notes

Submitted by Superintendent Lisa NelsonThe Naselle/Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on August 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Grays River Fire Hall.

In personnel matters, the board approved the hire of Qin Xia, Mandarin teacher, who had her cultural program visa approved for the next school year. Community member Susan Burkhalter spoke on her pleasure that the Mandarin program would continue as a result.

The board also approved a contract with Pacific County for school nursing services for the 2019-20 school year. Both the board and superintendent goals for the upcoming school year were approved as well. A first read on several policies was conducted: 2410 High School Graduation Requirements, 2413 Equivalency Credit for Career and Technical Courses, 3115 Students Experiencing Homelessness Rights and Services, 3120 Enrollment, 3207 Prohibition of Harassment, Intimidation or Bullying, 3211 Gender-Inclusive Schools, 3231 Student Records, 3416 Medication at School, 3520 Student Fees, Fines or Charges, 5201 Drug-Free Schools, Community or Workplace, 6100 Revenues From Local, State and Federal Sources.

Superintendent Nelson reported that staff inservice days will be August 26-28, with open house on August 27, from 5-7 p.m.

The next regular school board meeting will be on September 17 in the Middle School Commons beginning at 6:30 p.m.
