Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The Tavern at the Hotel Cathlamet, a new wine bar, is opening this Friday with a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. Doors will be open to kids until 5 p.m. that day but from that point on, you'll have to be at least 21 to enjoy the quiet space and a glass of wine.
On Monday, the wine bar was nearly ready to open. Hotel Cathlamet owners Laurel and Tim Waller were finishing up some final touches and working on inventory, which will include wine, ciders, some non-alcoholic options, but no beer.
Laurel Waller just wanted to provide a quiet place for people to hang out, read a book, relax, or spend time with friends.
She was so concerned about all the details, it took a friend to step up and say, "Just open."
So that's what they are doing. All the paperwork is done, all the licenses obtained. The walls have been painted, the floor is done, the room has been set up. And they are going to go with the flow, and learn as they go, adapting and changing as they need to.
The Tavern is located on the first floor of the Hotel Cathlamet and will be open from 4-8 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays.
