Boat show set for next weekend

The Cathlamet Wooden & Classic Boat Show is set for August 3rd and 4th at the Elochoman Marina in Cathlamet. This year’s festival is shaping up to be a great time with plenty of activities and classic boats of types and vintage for all to enjoy.

Classic craft are welcomed, including those of various construction materials. All sizes are encouraged, the only limit being the ability to tie off at the marina dock. Also wanted are boats of all modes of propulsion and function, be it boats used for work, pleasure or recreation. The goal is to expand the slate on display for enjoyable viewing and visitation.

Food and craft vendors will be on site. Fun things to do will include the popular Rubber Ducky Derby and the opportunity to experience the Columbia River in their boats with rides or rowing in their classic craft. In addition, they will hold a boat building demonstration throughout the festival.

Several local boat builders from the Lower Columbia River Chapter of the Traditional Small Craft Association will build a 12-foot wooden Salt Bay skiff and a swap meet will be held on Sunday featuring nautical articles for sale, all vendors are welcome.

Music will be provided both days by Julie Dalen, a local favorite, singing her range of classics from folk to modern songs.

There will be select brews to enjoy at the nearby River Mile 38 Brewery.

Each visitor will be asked to vote for their favorite boat in several different categories. The winners will be announced near the end of the show on Sunday. As is tradition, the boat selected as “Best-in-Show” will receive a special commemorative plaque and be featured in advertising and marketing for the following year’s show.
