Eagles and angels soared during Bald Eagle Day

To The Eagle:

The eagles soared high over Cathlamet and Wahkiakum County during the Bald Eagle Day's festival!

More than 50 members of the Portland Yacht Club (PYC) were here aboard 18 boats, while others stayed at the hotel, camped or spent the day in Cathlamet. It was fun to participate in as well as watch the parade and the fireworks show is always spectacular. This is a wonderful community and PYC members love cruising to Cathlamet.

The Chamber of Commerce put on a great event for visitors and locals alike. The parade was fun and well organized thanks to the efforts of the Bank of the Pacific employees. The Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Office managed traffic and kept the community safe. The Elochoman Slough Marina staff worked their magic again this year to accommodate all of the boats, RV's, campers and spectators who were at the marina for the weekend.

However, this very special weekend didn't get off to a good start for two of our members as they neared Cathlamet. They had a medical emergency aboard their boat and needed help.

A very special thank you goes to the Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Office and to the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) with the Cathlamet Fire Department for their assistance. They were all professional, well-trained and compassionate. As the eagles soared this past weekend, so did the special angels of Wahkiakum County. On behalf of all of the members of PYC, thank you all!

Bob and Bonita Morgan,

Commodore and First Lady, Portland Yacht Club
