Carl Cothren, 81, of Cathlamet, passed away on June 13th, 2019 at home. Carl was born to Thirl and Ethel (Dillehay) Cothren on May 22, 1938 in Hayesville, North Carolina. He grew up and attended school in Hayesville, when he left North Carolina in 1956 he went to Drain, Oregon and logged for a few months for Louisiana Pacfic, then traveled to Cathlamet in 1957 and went to work for Crown Zellerbach. He worked in the woods for 38 years until they shut down in 1985, then went to Southeast Alaska and worked for Ketchikan Pulp Company until he retired. He was an avid hunter, liked digging clams at Copalis Beach with family and did a lot of fishing on Sunny Sands.
Carl married Janice Edmonson in April 1958 in Vancouver, Washington and was married for 38 years until divorced later. They are parents of Bettie Sorenson (Merle) of Monroe.
He has one granddaughter Courtney Edelbrock (Wade) and three great grandchildren Reese, Hank and Chase of Monroe.
He is survived by five sisters, Meredith Claussen (Rick), Kathy Malcolm, Viola Clark (Ray), all of Longview, Brenda Settlemier (Dan) of Kelso, Janie Walls of Hiawassee, Georgia; two brothers Drue Cothren (Linda) of Cathlamet and Royal Cothren (Patty) of Longview; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents Thirl and Ethel Cothren and two brothers Kenith and Loman.
He is survived by his companion of 21 years Crystal Hanson.
A graveside service was held on Thursday June 20th at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet and a reception was held at the Duck Inn in Skamokawa.
