Dog races to be held this weekend

The hounds will be running this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26, at Misty Rivers Plantation, 117 Cross Dike Road on Puget Island. And it will be more than just hounds. The AKC event, sponsored by the Willamette Valley Basenji Club, will consist of Coursing Aptitude Trials (CATs) open to all breeds and mixed breeds. In regular CATs, the dogs chase an artificial bunny on a random course of around 1000 yards. There will also be FAST CATs, which is a timed 100 yard dash. Entry details can be found at the Willamette Valley Basenji Club website under "Events & Activities" or call Judy Brawn at 360-562-1925. Last minute entries will be accepted an hour prior to each event.

The public is invited, and well-leashed dogs are welcome as spectators. Participants may park on the coursing field behind the house; spectators on the lawn along the driveway in front. Restrooms and limited handicapped parking are available in the back. Running starts at 9 a.m., each day and continues to completion, usually mid to late afternoon.
