The Naselle/Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on Tuesday at the Grays River Fire Hall.
In personnel matters, the board acknowledged the resignations of Dan Vaughn, middle school basketball coach, and Tucker Glenn, high school assistant basketball coach. The board also approved the hire of Regan Wirkkala as director of maintenance and operations.
As additional business, the board agreed to an increase in the Associated Student Body Imprest Fund, raising it to $6,000 from $4,000.
Principal Quinn Donlon gave an overview on the recent State Knowledge Bowl competition in Yakima, in which the Comet team, Monte and the Pythons, placed sixth. Donlon also provided an agenda for the upcoming state assessments, scheduled to begin in a couple weeks.
Superintendent Lisa Nelson discussed that the district had recently received a 60 student count projection for the Naselle Youth Camp School, 2019-2020 school year. This is the lowest projection offered by the Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration in decades.
Board Member Amy Chadwick provided an update on the current Legislative session.
The board also spent some time discussing the next steps in the proposed renovation of the music/vocational wing constructed in 1957.
The next school board meeting will be on May 21 in the Middle School Commons, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
