On Tuesday, a special meeting was held at 5 p.m., prior to the regular board meeting to continue dialogue about upgrades and repairs to the district’s vocational and music wing, constructed in 1957.
At 6:30 p.m., the regular board meeting was called to order.
In personnel matters, the board acknowledged the retirement of Darrilyn Eastham, effective at the end of the school year. Mrs. Eastham has worked in the district for nearly 23 years. The board also approved the hire of Kathryn Green as middle school track coach.
In special acknowledgements, Superintendent Nelson congratulated Brian Macy for being selected as the Columbia Valley 1B League Coach of the Year.
In other matters of business, it was noted that music teacher Karen Nelson received a grant from the Water Music Society for the purchase of 28 ukuleles, which the board unanimously approved.
Board Member Amy Chadwick provided an update on the many initiatives being discussed in the current Legislative session.
Policy 6220, Bid Requirements, was approved after a first read of the policy was conducted last month.
Youth Camp Principal Gary Flood provided an overview of enrollment and students activities at the facility.
The next school board meeting will be April 16 at the Grays-River Fire Hall, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
