Bridge work resumes

With the arrival of spring and warmer temperatures, construction work resumes on the SR 409 Puget Island Bridge Deck Replacement and Painting project.

Beginning tomorrrow (Friday), crews will close a single lane of the bridge around-the-clock for bridge painting work. The single-lane closure is expected to remain in place 24/7 until construction is complete, said Tamara Greenwell, Department of Transportation communication director.

At this time, there are no full closures of the bridge scheduled, Greenwell said. Later this year, crews may need to fully close the bridge overnight for bridge deck paving work.

Travelers can get updated closure information from the department’s Travel Advisory web page: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/regions/southwest/construction/ or check current travel conditions with our mobile app: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Inform/mobile.htm.

Also, the Wahkiakum County Department of Emergency Management has created a notification system to alert you of delayed bridge openings or canceled bridge closures. To be added to the notification list text the word: BRIDGE to 474747, or email your cell phone number to Beau Renfro at renfrob@co.wahkiakum.wa.us, or call 360-795-7876. The text option is preferred.
