Jumping for hearts

Students at J.A. Wendt Elementary school particpated in the 40th Birthday of the American Heart Association’s Jump for Heart event last Thursday.

Teacher Mary Moonen has been leading students through this fun fundraising event for more than 30 years.

This year, 53 of her students jumped ropes to raise more than $1,900.

Moonen wanted to give special thanks to the J.A. Wendt PTO for cutting and serving healthy fruit snacks to jumpers during the two hour event. She also had heartfelt thanks to all the parents who donated fruit for jumpers, as well as to parents, grandparents, families and friends who donated to a “great cause.”

“Thank you for all your support throughout my 30 some years of hosting Jump for Heart, Moonen said. “Sadly this will be my last year. It has been a great run.”

Moonen is retiring this year.
