WHS thespians earn honors at festival

The Wahkiakum High School drama club came away with an award after participating in the second annual Stageworks Northwest Theatre 2019 High School One Act Play Festival in Longview last weekend.

Shelby Bond won best overall performer for her work in Eyes of the Beholder, one of two plays written by their club advisor, Shawn Deal, and performed by Wahkiakum students on Sunday.

Mossyrock High School, Skyview High School, and Washougal High School drama students also participated in the competition.

Following each performance, theatre instructors from Clark College and Centralia College who were acting as judges, talked to the students about what they did right and gave them suggestions for ways to improve.

“The students had a good time,” Deal said. “It was real strong competition this year. All the plays were very well done.”

The drama club will be performing both of their one act plays for a local audience at Wahkiakum High School on February 1 at 7 p.m., and on February 2 at 2 p.m.
