At a football award ceremony earlier this month, Wahkiakum High School senior Evan Quigley became the sixth athlete in school history to be awarded the Iron Mule.
The award is given to players who never miss a football practice or game in the course of their four year high school career.
“The Iron Mule is an outstanding achievement considering everything it takes to accomplish,” Coach Eric Hansen said.
The award was created by Hansen in 2007. In 2014, Nathan Cothren, Travis Wegdahl, and Dylan Hansen were the first players to win the award. Hank Ferguson and Casey Wilson won in 2016 and 2017 respectively, and now Quigley joins their ranks.
“Evan has everything we ask for in a Mule Football player,” Hansen said. “He is accountable to his teammates, responsible and tough. He is an an outstanding young man who should accomplish great things in his life.
Quigley is the son of Mike Quigley and Melanie Reid-Stone.
