Mules lose 2 games

The Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team show promise but continue to look for their identity as a team in two non-league losses this week.

On Saturday, the Mules faced Vancouver prep school Seton Catholic and lost 80-48.

"I was very happy with the effort against a very long, athletic, and deep team," Coach Todd Souvenir said. "I thought we handled the press very well and rotated and rebounded on the defensive end in the first half. In the second half we struggled on the offensive end, which led to too many easy transition buckets."

Brody Carlson finished the game with 12 points, hitting three from behind the arc. Jake Leitz added 11 points and Logan LaBerge had nine. KC Beery and Luke Brown scored five points apiece. Quentin Nelson had four. Evan Quigley scored two points and pulled down seven boards.

Gabe Anderson led the Cougars with 18 points.

On Tuesday, the Mules traveled to Onalaska and lost 74-58 to the Loggers.

"Onalaska played a very physical man defense that we didn't handle very well," Souvenir said. "Alex Frazier and Kayden Allison are big physical players and are tough match ups for us."

Nelson and Carlson led the Mules with 13 points apiece. Brown had 12 points and LaBerge added 11 points, hitting eight of nine from the free throw line. Quigley scored four points, Isaac Moon had three, and Beery finished the game with two.

Kayden Allison led the Loggers with 27 points and Carter Whitehead added 17.

The Mules host Morton/White Pass tonight (Thursday), travel to Rainier on Saturday, and face Mossyrock at home

on Tuesday.
