Comets receive VB honors

Taylor Gudmundsen, Naselle, Volleyball (SR) is one of the athletes of the week honored last week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA).

Gudmundsen led her team to a seventh place finish at last week’s State Tournament in Yakima. She racked up 119 assists, 41 digs, 15 kills, and 13 aces in four matches.

Gudmundsen was also named co-most valuable player for the Columbia Valley League, sharing honors with Katie Kogler of Firm Foundation.

Named to the league's all-league team were Naselle's Holly Disch, Jackie Steenerson, Sophie Scrabeck and Kenzie Gleen. Libero Lily Harman received honorable mention.

Disch was honored as one of the WIAA's athletes of the week Sept. 9-15. She racked up 100 kills, 34 digs, and 29 aces in two tournaments and one league contest.

Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes varsity athletes who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week (based off of nominations). All varsity level students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the WIAA/Wendy's Athlete of the Week Award. Students may win the award once during any given academic year.
