Mules rip Toutle, host Toledo on Friday

The Wahkiakum Mules picked up a Central League/River Divison win with a 42-6 win over the host Toutle Lake Ducks last Friday.

The Mules had no trouble with the Duck defense; they rushed for 310 yards and gained another 138 in the air as quarterback Lucas Brown completed eight of 11 passes.

Brown passed to Quentin Nelson at 7:03 of the first quarter for a 20-yard touchdown play. In the second quarter, Chance Cothren scored on a 35-yard run; Brown scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak and Nelson scored again on a 24-yard pass play. Toutle Lake scored on a 33-yard pass play to make the score 28-6 at halftime.

Brown scored on a five-yard run in the third quarter and another one-yard sneak early in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

Brown had a big game. He gained 160 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns. He completed eight of 11 passes for 38 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, and he converted all five of his extra point attempts. On defense, he was in in six tackles and intercepted a Duck pass.

Nelson gained 60 yards on seven carries; Cothren gained 39 yards, Braxton Johns 23, James Anderson 16, and Jake Leitz and Zachary Brandon six each.

Tristan Collupy and Ashden Niemeyer each had seven tackles. Collupy made two quarterback sacks, Nelson and Evan Quigley each made one.

The Mules host Toledo this Friday in the last regular season home game. Seniors and their parents in football, cheer and cross country will be honored before the 7 p.m. game time.
