Lady Mules drop two matches

The Wahkiakum High School volleyball team lost two this week at home. They are 2-2 in league, 3-5 overall.

Last Thursday, the Lady Mules hosted Toutle Lake and lost in three sets: 20-25, 13-25, and 15-25.

"Although there were some good things on our side of the net, we struggled to get into a groove tonight and put a whole game together," Coach Kayli Hurley said. "Toutle plays some tough defense."

Hurley's standouts were Mckensi Fluckiger, Solana Stanley, and Macie Elliott for "outstanding serve receive and defense."

On Tuesday, the team hosted Mossyrock and lost in three sets: 17-25, 20-25, and 13-25.

"We came out a bit flat and struggled with our serve receive, which hindered our ability to be aggressive on offense," Hurley said. "Overall, the volleyball we played wasn't terrible, but we definitely could have taken more control over our game and energy level. Mossyrock is a tough team. Anything short of 100 percent on our side makes for a difficult night against a tough team."

Hurley's standouts were Stanley with "stellar defense," and Jordyn Keithley-Watson and Fluckiger who were "100 percent from the service line."

The Lady Mules travel to Adna today and face Napavine at home on Tuesday.
