Meeting McCain

Wahkiakum Superintendent Brent Freeman met Senator John McCain while serving as a Naval Attache in Vietnam. McCain, who can be seen here with Freeman and Freeman's daughter, Kiana, died August 25. "Senator McCain loved the Navy," Freeman said. "I got to go with him when he went on some of his trips and got to learn first hand what he had to endure. It really made me appreciate what a great man he was, a man of integrity. For a person like that to overcome the type of obstacles that he overcame over there and make peace with them and come back and foster a very positive relationship with the Vietnamese speaks volumes."
