Walter "Wally" David Wright, 71, of Cathlamet, passed away peacefully Monday, August 6th at the Frontier Nursing Home in Longview.
Wally was born April 30, 1947, in Longview, to Arthur and Effie (Faubion) Wright. He lived in Cathlamet most of his life, graduating from Wahkiakum High School, Lower Columbia College, and Western Washington University. It was here that he met the love of his life, Linda Sundberg Wright. They married in Longview on June 13, 1971.
Wally taught in Lakewood, Washington, before they moved to Cathlamet in 1974, where he taught middle school science. In 1985, he took over the family hardware store in Cathlamet after his father passed away. He continued as a third-generation owner of Wright Furniture & Hardware until he semi-retired in 2013.
In addition, Wally was a member of the Cathlamet volunteer fire department for 50 years, ending his career as a Captain and EMT. Many times meals and sleep were disrupted when he went on a call to help others in need.
Wally enjoyed hunting, fishing, and above all else, spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Mike (Samantha) Wright, daughter Meg (Brian) Weisman; three grandchildren, Nolan Wright, Jaydon Weisman, Kayla Weisman; brother Robert Wright; one nephew and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 1 p.m., Saturday, August 18 at J.A. Wendt Elementary in Cathlamet. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to the Cathlamet Fire Department, P.O. Box 539, Cathlamet, WA 98612.
