Lifelong Wahkiakum County resident, Robert A. 'Bob' Hendrickson, 88, of Cathlamet passed away on July 30, 2018. Bob was born at the family home on Puget Island on August 10, 1929 to Swedish immigrants Albin and Elin (Olsson) Hendrickson. Bob grew up on the Puget Island family farm and later graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1947. In 1951 Bob married Gloria Eidem, and they then took over the family farm and began raising their six children. What started as a dairy farm, later changed to raising beef cattle, which lead to Bob's career move into the meat cutting, butcher shop, and cattle hauling field. In 1966 he purchased the Wahkiakum Refrigeration Company and continued serving the community there until his retirement in 1993.
Bob was a lifelong member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir as well as the men's quartet. Bob's other memberships included the Puget Island and Elochoman Granges, the Wahkiakum Historical Society, the Wahkiakum Soil Conservation District, and the Wahkiakum School Board.
Bob was an active supporter of Wahkiakum Mule sports, especially if it involved his kids, and later on his grandchildren. He was a Trailblazer, Seahawk, Mariner, Husky/Cougar fan as well; he loved sports!
In his retirement years Bob loved to research his family genealogy, which led to several trips to visit relatives in Sweden, as well as hosting some of the Swedes who came to visit Cathlamet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers Einar and Alvar, as well as his partner of 41 years Margie Moore.
He is survived by his six children, Ron (Linda) Hendrickson, Dave (Sandi) Hendrickson, Larry (Sandy) Hendrickson, Joan (Dirk) Zeller, Heidi (Tom) Aasen, Carol (Pat) Ross; Bob's grandchildren, Kara, Kristi, Scott, Rhiana, Kali, Shayna, Heather, Ryan, Matt, Megan, Maddie, Brady, Molly, Wesley, and Annabelle. He was also survived by Margie's children Cheryl Stamper, Wayne (Nancy) Moore, and Margie's eight grandchildren; as well as many great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held on Sunday August 19th at 2:00 p.m., at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on Puget Island. A private inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wahkiakum Historical Society or Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
