Walter Ray Berkshire, 83, passed away in Longview on July 18, 2018. He was a resident of Grays River the past 58 years.
Walt was born in Eugene, Oregon on August 13, 1934, the son of George and Frances (Price) Berkshire. In 1961 he married Clara Magnuson in Eugene and they moved to Grays River where he resided since. Walt was employed by Weyerhaeuser Timber of 20 years in various capacities. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and working in his shop. A US Army veteran, he was very proud of his 25 years service with the Grays River volunteer firemen.
Walt is survived by his wife Clara (Magnuson) Berkshire of the family home in Grays River; son Stan (Cindy) Berkshire of Goldendale, WA; daughter Lorinda (Jim) Alexander of Cathlamet; grandchildren Kenzie Abbott, Shelbie Abbott and Zach Berkshire; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be Saturday, August 4, 2018, 11:00 AM at Valley Bible Church in Rosburg. Concluding graveside service follows at Grays River Cemetery and a reception will be held at the church. Memorials are requested to either Valley Bible Church or Grays River Fire and Ambulance Foundation in care of Penttila's Chapel, PO Box 417, Long Beach, WA 98631.
