Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The 1867 Julia Butler Hansen House, the oldest surviving house in Cathlamet and Wahkiakum County, will be open Friday, June 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The JBH House was the home of the late Congresswoman, Julia Butler Hansen and her family. The house has been in the same family for 120 years. It contains the furnishings of four generations of the Kimball Butler Hansen families and also has awards presented to Julia Butler Hansen during her 43 years of public service.
On exhibit are watercolors done by Maude Kimball Butler, Julia's mother, of scenes of Cathlamet of the 1880's, 1890's and early 1900's. Tours will be conducted by David Kimball Hansen, son of Julia Butler Hansen.
