To The Eagle:

Free Summer Lunch Program. Four simple words. It can happen here. Four simple words.

In coordination with the Wahkiakum School District’s Summer School schedule, we hope to offer free lunches at JA Wendt Elementary School, Mon – Thursday at noon, beginning July 16 and ending August 16. Community members have been meeting for a month working out details on how to bring a Summer Lunch program to kids in Cathlamet. A critical piece to this happening is volunteers stepping forward to help prepare and serve the meals.

If you have time to help on Mondays between 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., please contact Carrie Backman at carrie.backman@wsu.edu If you can help on Tuesdays, please contact Shiela Nadgwick at 360-795-0224. Our Wednesday Team Leader is Ann Treger and she can be reached at aptreger@gmail.com. Thursdays are covered.

If you do not have a current Food Handler Card you can take the test online and we will reimburse the $10 fee. https://www.foodworkercard.wa.gov/language.html. This card is good for two years. The online program includes a video training portion followed by an online test, if you do not have access to a home computer, Wahkiakum County allows the use of their food worker card station to take the training and the test from their office in the basement of the courthouse. You can also take the test at the Wahkiakum Community Center. If you are interested, we ask you to complete a simple Volunteer Registration form at the Community Center.

We can do it. Four simple words. No kid goes hungry. Four simple words.
