Last week, Wahkiakum and Naselle athletes traveled to Cheney, Washington to compete in the 2B and 1B State Track and Field competition.
Twelve of the 22 Comets who qualified for state placed in the top eight in several events.
Lillian Zimmerman placed highest among Naselle competitors with a third place finish in the shot put. She tossed the put a distance of 34-03.75.
Faaoso Tutu’u placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20-04.50.
Shon McEneny took fifth place in the javelin with a throw of 150-05.
Sophie Scrabeck finished in seventh place in two events, the javelin and the pole vault, throwing 106-11 and clearing 7-06 respectively.
Echo Cenci got a seventh place state finish in the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.61.
The 4x200 meter relay team of Mckenzie Glenn, Cenci, Jordan Clarke, and Jaclyn Steenerson took seventh place with a time of 1:57.94.
Ellie Miller took eighth place in the discus with a throw of 97-00.
Steenerson tied for eighth place in the high jump, clearing 4-06.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Erik Lund, Tutu’u, Jack Ruch, and Antonio Nolan took eighth place with a time of 48.08.
Six Mules qualified for the state meet, including Jansi Merz in the discus, Charlie Ashe in the high jump, Mckensi Fluckiger in the long jump, and Ashe, Teylor Sauer, Ellie Leitz and Fluckiger in the 4x200 meter relay. None of them medaled, though Fluckiger took ninth place in the long jump, her longest leap one inch shorter than the eighth place finisher.
