Gladys V. Spooner, 91, lifelong Wahkiakum resident, died April 7, 2018 at the Hospice Care Center in Longview.
She was born November 28, 1926 on Puget Island to Lindor and Albertina (Svenson) Wegdahl. She is the last of four children. Gladys attended school on Puget Island and at Wahkiakum High School. She married John H. Wright and they had four children, later divorcing. On June 22, 1967 Gladys and David Spooner were married and they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Together they managed the Columbia River Apartments for many years. Gladys loved baking and cooking and was well known for her Norwegian cookies. She enjoyed time with family and friends and was a great support to people with cancer. She was an inspiration, always encouraging everyone with cards and calls. She was a longtime member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
Gladys is survived by her husband Dave at home; a daughter and son-in-law Kristine (Jerry) Sudar; a son Grant Wright; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend Carolyn Feasey Kirkpatrick.
Gladys was preceded by two sons, Allen and Mark Wright; three brothers Alvin, Lou and Terry Wegdahl.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 14 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church on Puget Isand at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 549 SR 409, Cathlamet, WA 98612. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
