Annual salmon derby set for March 30-31

The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce will host its annual “Hook the Hawg” Salmon Derby on March 30 and March 31, at the Elochoman Slough Marina in Cathlamet.

This is a two-day event commencing at daylight on Friday, March 30, and finishing in the evening on Saturday, March 31. Turn in tickets with weigh-in of the catch. Weigh-in times for both days will be 4-6 p.m. All salmon should be gilled and not gutted. Prizes will be awarded for the largest salmon caught in four categories: adult male, adult female, youth and kid.

The “Hook the Hawg” Salmon Derby is a fundraising event to provide a Wahkiakum High School senior with a scholarship to attend a college, university, or trade school after graduation.

Tickets for the “Hook the Hawg” Salmon Derby are available at the following locations: Bank of the Pacific Cathlamet, Elochoman Slough Marina, Moore Auto, Skamokawa Resort, and the day of the event. Tickets for adults (18+) are $20, tickets for youth (11-17) are $10, and tickets for kids (10 and under) are $5.
