William (Bill) Rohloff passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 21, 2018. He was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Dubuque, IA, the only child of Henry and Emma Rohloff. Bill grew up in Bellevue, IA, and on July 21, 1942 married the love of his life Helma Steines. They have four children, Joan (Bill) Wren of Cathlamet, WA, William (Linda) Rohloff of Bennett, IA, Dennis (Carolyn) Rohloff of Conroe TX and Daniel Rohloff of Page Springs AZ .
Bill entered the US Army in Dec., 1942, and was a tank driver in the European campaign, returning to the states in 1945. He was proud of his service to his country.
In 1968 Bill moved his family to Phoenix, AZ and became a real estate broker. He was hired to manage a real estate office in Sedona, AZ, and later bought a small bar in Page Springs, AZ, that he and wife Helma developed into a successful restaurant.
Bill moved to Cathlamet, WA, in 2013 to be with his daughter and son-in-law . He loved being a part of their lives and went with them everywhere. He loved to play cards and was an avid golfer, having a great time out scoring his opponents. He enjoyed telling his stories and would tell people his name was Wild Bill or Sweet William depending on how he felt that day. We will miss his wit and smiling face.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helma and two grandsons Mark and Brady. He is survived by his children, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held March 10, 2018 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, 400 Columbia St. Cathlamet, WA, at 1 p.m. Refreshments and sharing to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cathlamet First Aid Division, 375 Second St., Cathlamet, WA 98612 or to the American Cancer Society.
