Lady Fishermen handle Lady Mules in opener

The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team began their season with a trip to Ilwaco on Tuesday. They lost to the Fishermen 46-58.

“I thought the girls worked hard and played good defense,” Coach Rob Garrett said. “We just didn’t finish the play. Gave up way too may offensive rebounds. Offensively we struggled, partly due to Ilwaco playing very good defense. Offensively, we will get better and better each game as the girls play more and more with each other.”

Macie Elliott led the team with 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Ellie Leitz had 10 points and seven rebounds. Charlie Ashe had seven points, Paige Mace had five, Alex Watkins had four, and Jansi Merz added two.

The Lady Mules played in the Mark Morris Jamboree on Wednesday night, but scores were not available by press time.

Their first home game is scheduled next Wednesday against Winlock.
