Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on November 21.
During the board meeting, several personnel matters were addressed. A one-year leave of absence for coaching middle school girls’ basketball was granted for Rob Dalton. Russ Hickman and David Blaylock were hired as one-year leave replacement coaches for middle school girls’ basketball.
In other matters, the board approved resolution No. 2017-11-21 to place a three-year educational programs and operations replacement levy on the February 13th ballot.
Also approved were the booster club activities for the 2017-18 school year, and a trip to Washington D.C. for select juniors and seniors sponsored by Close-Up. Close Up tours visit key historical sites and the students are allowed to attend various workshops at the Capitol.
The board approved the purchase of a 78 passenger Thomas school bus, not to exceed $139,500. By purchasing new buses, the district keeps itself on the bus depreciation schedule and continues to receive money from the state for its bus fleet. Once a bus comes off the depreciation schedule, it no longer generates revenue for the district. As a result, a new bus is purchased every few years to ensure a current fleet.
In final orders of business, the district accepted a donation of freeze-dried food for emergency preparedness and did an initial review of Policy 2410, Graduation Requirements.
Before the board adjourned the meeting, an evaluation of the superintendent was conducted.
The next board meeting will be on December 19 at the Grays River Fire Hall, where newly elected board members will be sworn in and take office.
