County boards have vacancies

Local agencies are looking for citizens willing to participate in local government.

Branches of Wahkiakum County government have several vacancies on governing boards, and Port District 2 has a vacancy on its board of commissioners.

Vacant county positions include:

--The Wahkiakum County Planning Commission has a vacancy available in each of the three commissioner districts--Puget Island/South Cathlamet; Rosedale/Elochoman, and Skamokawa/Westend.

--The Wahkiakum County Noxious Weed Control Board has vacancies in Weed Control District 4 (east end) and in Weed District 1 (Grays River).

--The county Marine Resources Committee has a vacancy for a position that represents Scientific Interest/Expert and a vacancy that represents Environmental & Conservation Interest.

--The county Real Property Rights Advisory Board has one vacancy in Commissioner District 1 (Puget Island/South Cathlamet) and one at-large vacancy.

For more information about these positions, contact the office of the board of county commissioners.

Port District 2 Commissioner Lori Scott declined to file for re-election last spring, and there were no candidates for the office on the 2017 election ballots.

Scott represents that portion of western Wahkiakum County lying west of a dividing line between Grays River and Rosburg.

Scott has said she would like to retire from the position, but she has agreed to serve until fellow commissioners Brian O'Connor and Lee Tischer appoint a replacement.
