Bill R. Munson, 67, of Cathlamet, died October 18, 2017 at home. He was born August 9, 1950 in Longview, to Roger Munson and Marjory (Troth) Munson.
Bill grew up and attended school in Cathlamet, served in the army at Fort Benning, Ga., and was a member of the Color Guard in San Diego, Calif. After his military service he was a self-employed logger and truck driver. He was known for his sense of humor and loving heart, often giving his last dollar to someone in need. His favorite pastimes were cooking, camping, fishing, anything outdoors, and playing his guitar. He was famous for his blackberry pies and cinnamon rolls.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jacob Munson. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Hahn and Heather McQuistian; stepdaughter, Eva Wright; sons Justin Munson and John Munson (Jennifer); three siblings, Gail Munson, Al Munson and Elaine Rolf (Phil); 18 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; lifelong best friend Gary Backman; and good buddy, Lew Crawford.
A military burial will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet. A celebration of Bill's life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Family Healing Center, 1517 N. 4th Ave., in Kelso, with a potluck to follow.
