Chess club hosting tournament

The John Thomas Middle School Chess Club will host an open chess tournament on November 4.

There will be four rounds of play. Registration runs 10-10:45 a.m., and rounds are at 11 a.m. and 12:30, 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. Games are limited to 30 minutes per side.

There will be a trophy for first place and ribbons for second through fifth places. Entry fee is $5 for persons age 17 years and younger and $10 for 18 years and older.

The tournament will be played at Thomas Middle School in Cathlamet.

Notation is encouraged but not required.
