The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team split games this week and raised their record to 3-1 in league and 7-2 overall.
Last Thursday, the Mules suffered their second loss of the season in a league match against Toutle Lake, 22-25, 8-25, 25-22, and 25-27
"It was a hard fought match," Coach Kayli Hurley said. "We showed a lot of growth over the evening and persevered through some self inflicted adversity. Toutle has a scrappy program and doesn't let much hit the floor, so we had to work hard to earn any kills we got.
"In the end, unforced errors hurt the bottom line, but my girls are working hard every day to get better. Tonight was no exception."
Solana Stanley had a 2.11 serve receive average. Ellie Leitz had 13 kills, Macie Elliott had 10, and Jansi Merz had nine.
"Grayci Thomas dished 27 assists," Hurley said, "and Charlie Ashe picked up some big digs in the back row."
The following Tuesday at home, the Mules beat Toledo in three sets, 25-20, 25-11, and 25-11.
Elliott had nine kills. Mckensi Fluckiger had a 2.0 passing average on serve receive.
Hurley praised Merz, who had five kills, for her aggressive net play.
According to the schedule on the Wahkiakum School District website, the Mules next play in the R.A. Long Lumberjill Invitational on Saturday. On Tuesday, they travel to Rainier.
